DEALING WITH THE LIQUID
CARRY-ON REGULATIONS
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has defined rules for carrying liquids and gels onto planes in
your carry-on bags. Changes In Latitude Travel Store has some tips and advice to help you deal with these
liquid carry-on regulations; how to get your liquids and gels to your destination, how to pack to make it easier
to get through airport security. We want to help to keep traveling as enjoyable and as stress-free as
possible.
| The Official TSA 3-1-1 Liquid Carry-On Rule |
|
3-ounce containers or smaller of liquids, gels, creams, pastes & aerosols All liquids, gels, creams, pastes & aerosols carried onto a plane by passengers must be in containers that are 3-ounces or smaller in size. 1 quart-size, clear plastic, zip-top bag holding all 3-ounce or smaller containers All 3-ounce containers of liquid, gel, cream or paste must fit into a single quart-size, clear plastic, zip-top bag, which limits the amount each passenger can bring. 1 bag per traveler allowed to be carried onto the airplane Each passenger can carry only one quart-size bag on to the plane. The bag will be placed in a security bin for easier x-ray screening at security checkpoints. |
That is the 3-1-1 rule the Transportaion Security Administration wants everyone to remember when packing their
carry-on bag for a trip. Make sure the bag is no larger than quart-size and it is best if the size is
printed on the bag itself. Travelers have mentioned that some security agents have questioned the bag size
and caused delays. The one quart bag also must be clear plastic for easy visual inspection by security
agents and expect to have to pull the bag out of your carry-on bag and place it in a security bin for x-raying
at the security checkpoints.
We have convenient liquid/gel carry-on kits in stock, along with extra bottles
and containers to make it easy to pack all your liquids, gels, creams & pastes.
Packing tips and advice to help travelers adjust to the liquid/gel carry-on rules.
- Prescription medications, baby formula and milk (when traveling with an infant or toddler) are allowed in
quantities exceeding three ounces and are not required to be in the quart-size bag. Declare these
items to the security agent at the checkpoint for separate inspection.
- One way of avoiding problems with all of the security regulations about carrying liquids onto the plane is
just not to carry on any liquids at all. When possible, pack all of your liquids, gels, creams, pastes
and aerosols in your checked bag(s).
- If you don't have a lot of different liquids/gels to carry-on, you can take a larger amount of any liquid
or gel by transferring it to more than one 3-ounce container. As long as all your 3-ounce containers
fit in the quart-size bag, you are following the rules.
- All containers in your quart-size bag must be 3-ounces or smaller. A 6-ounce bottle of shampoo that
is only half full is not allowed.
- One quart-size bag is allowed per passenger. If you have a bit more than can fit into your own quart
bag, maybe you can add a little to your son or daughter's alloted quart-size bag.
- Remember to go through your purse, daypack or carry-on prior to leaving for the airport and pull out any
containers larger than 3-ounce containers you might have such as sunscreen, water bottles, etc. If you
need them for your trip, move them to your checked baggage or transfer the contents to smaller containers.
- If you have questions about a particular item, you should check with your airline before arriving at the
airport or check the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) website for the latest rules.
- These regulations apply to airport security checkpoints. Any liquid, gel, or aerosol purchased in
the secure area after you process through a security checkpoint, such as coffee or soda, is allowed aboard
your plane, even in normal sized coffee cups or soda containers.
- Look for non-liquid substitutes for your liquid/gel items. There are many available, such as towelettes
and wipes containing soap or bug repellant. They can replace liquids/gels and won't take up the limited
space in your quart-size bag. Changes In Latitude Travel Store carries many substitue products
as shown below:
