Winner of Our Quilt Raffle
Sandy Heise has won the beautiful Nepal-themed quilt, which is fitting, since she’s been to Nepal twice since 1999.  The raffle raised money to help pay for Pasang Sherpa’s education at Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Basalt, Colorado.  Pasang is the daughter of Anu Sherpa, our guide on our Nepal treks.  An eager student, Pasang recently won the Community Award at her school for being a good friend and helpful to others.  Pasang hopes to return to her village one day as a doctor or nurse.  She’s working here in the store this summer, so stop by and say Namaste!
New Products From Eagle Creek!
The products in the newly updated Matrix Daypack and Matrix Shoulder Bag lines are named after the chemical elements, because they’re designed to be an elemental part of your lifestyle, either for travel or just running around town.  They have versatile features such as built-in pockets for pens and documents, and inside security pockets.

Eagle Creek has also introduced four new Packable Pouches this summer.  Get extra capacity without carrying extra luggage.  These bags pack small but offer big benefits.  Each folds into its own small sack for easy packing and carrying.  Click on one of the product links to see colors and specs.

Interesting News
In the aftermath of Sept. 11, one thing has proven true:  Nothing stops those hooked on adventure travel.
Once the realm of the hard-core few, adventure has become one of the leading, most resilient segments in vacation travel.  Broadly defined, these are experiential endeavors – journeys that combine personal challenge and physical activity, all performed in the natural world.  They involve the exercising of mind, muscle, and mettle, while leaving minimal impact on the environment.  Participants of all ages, genders, and level of adrenaline are drawn to adventure travel.  Women book 65 percent of the trips, and one of the hottest trends is grandparents taking grandkids on journeys that bond the generations.  Adventures come in rugged or gentle varieties.  The bold scale the Himalayas or raft plunging rivers in the Andes.  Those of more mainstream mentality test their limits by canoeing through Vermont, fly fishing the Rockies, or bicycling the Loire valley of France.  There are trips for all types of travelers, so there’s no excuse for not getting out there and seeing the world.
Check out Changes In Latitude’s upcoming adventure trips.

Ask the Experts
I’ll be traveling to Kenya this fall and hope to bring back lots of souvenirs and gifts, but I don’t want to carry an extra suitcase just to carry things in.  What do you recommend?

There are a couple of good solutions to your dilemma.  You could pack your old t-shirts and tennis shoes to wear on your trip and give them away before you leave.  This will free up some space in your luggage and make some locals very happy.  Another idea is to get one of Eagle Creek’s packable bags (mentioned above), which take up virtually no space when stashed empty in their pouches, but can be filled to great capacity with your purchases, as can any type of collapsible bag or duffel.  You can always ship packages home, but this can be expensive and/or slow, depending on where you are traveling.

Just For Fun
On a Continental flight with a very "senior" flight attendant crew, the pilot said, "Ladies and gentlemen, we've reached cruising altitude and will be turning down the cabin lights.  This is for your comfort and to enhance the appearance of your flight attendants.
