Get In On BUZZ OFF!
Tuesday, June 7th has been declared “BUZZ OFF Day” here at Changes In
Latitude Travel Store! We’re celebrating all of the new additions to Ex Officio’s BUZZ OFF® clothing line,
which includes everything from lightweight shirts to convertible pants, socks to travel vests. The innovative
BUZZ OFF® technology is a process that binds a man-made version of Permethrin to the garment fabric to repel
mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers, ants, flies and other outdoor pests. Also, the BUZZ OFF® apparel is odorless,
lasts through 25 washings and contains a 30+ UV sun shield.
Stop by our store to see this unique clothing line that keeps you safe both from West Nile-carrying mosquitoes and
from the harmful rays of the sun! Brian Bawdy, eco-adventurer and Ex Officio’s expert on BUZZ OFF clothing will be
presenting a free slide show at 7:30pm on Alaska, home of legendary-sized mosquitoes.
Avoid Flight Delays & Missed Connections This Summer
With airfare competition keeping tickets reasonably priced and the busy
summer travel season arriving, planes will be full and airports will be crowded. Combine that with notoriously bad
summer weather and many travelers may experience flight cancellations or flight delays causing missed connections.
There are a few things that you can do to help avoid these travel irritations.
-- Book your flights as early in the day as possible, the earlier the better. Any maintenance or inspections for
the first flights of the day are done overnight allowing for on-time departure, and no delays due to a plane flying in
from another location.
-- If you book a connecting flight and have a choice, book through smaller airports that have less traffic, less
congestion and therefore less chance of getting stuck in line waiting for other planes to take off. Also, avoid
connecting airports notorious for flight-delaying summer thunderstorms, the zone from Texas to Michigan.
-- During the summer, book your connecting flights with a little extra time in between, giving you more leeway to allow
for flight delays or getting through crowded airports.
-- If all else fails and you have to fly later in the day or on the weekend, pay the extra required to fly non-stop.
The best way to prevent a flight delay from causing you to miss a connection is not to have a connection.
One Less Airline...
Recently it was announced that America West and US Airways will merge into
a single airline. The nation’s seventh and eighth largest airlines will combine to form the first nationwide, full
service low-cost airline. Both airlines have had financial problems in the past and say the merger will strengthen
their business. They will be operating under the US Airways name and will honor the frequent flyer miles from both
airlines.

Suggested Reading “American Nomads” by Richard Grant, 2003, published by Grove/Atlantic, Inc. This book celebrates the
American nomad, as the author tries to answer the question of what makes some people choose a nomadic lifestyle.
Through vividly told stories and character essays, he explores the lifestyles of mountain men, cowboys, Comanche and
Apache warriors, hoboes, truckers, and bull riders, all with a stubborn conviction that the only true freedom is to roam
across the land. Grant uses their lives and his own to examine the myths and realities of the wandering life, and
its contradiction with the sedentary American dream.
