Travel Safety For Your Personal Information
There has been a lot of talk about identity theft in the news lately. Protecting your privacy and your personal data
is one of the keys to preventing identity theft. While you should not spend your vacation worrying about it, we have
a few travel safety tips for your personal information.
When entering data on your luggage tags on your outward bound journey, consider using the address and phone number
of the hotel or place you will be staying. On the return trip, consider using your work address and telephone number.
If your bags are lost, your airline will have the information needed to contact you and ship the bags, while protecting your
home information.
Before leaving for the airport, go through your wallet or purse and take out all of the documents with personal
information that will not be required on your trip. If your wallet or purse is lost or stolen while traveling, not only
will you have less to replace, but less of your personal information will be compromised. Consider a second wallet or
purse that you store with your luggage between trips that has just what you need for your travels.
Take advantage of hotel safes, whether in your room or at the front desk. Don’t leave documents
accessible in your room that have personal information or, if stolen, would interrupt your trip.

Namibia, Africa
Namibia, on the southwest coast of Africa, is one of the least populated countries in the world, with vast distances and
desert topography folding into the sea. There are soaring dunes, unique tribal areas, wildlife, abandoned diamond towns
being reclaimed by the desert, ships run aground in the fog, wild horses, and vast plains. Namibia is a photographer’s
delight, with endless possibilities.
Dr. Carroll Loyer (local veterinarian and photographer) will present a
multimedia show on the “classic” areas of Namibia, with a slant towards a fine-art photographic challenges and opportunities.
If you love photography and traveling, this will be a great evening!
Suggested Reading
“Old Glory: An American Voyage”, by Jonathan Raban, 1991, published by Simon & Schuster. Inspired by Mark
Twain's
Huckleberry Finn, the British author sets out on a 1400-mile journey down the Mississippi River, from St. Paul
to New Orleans, in a spartan 16-foot aluminum boat, powered by a 15 horsepower motor. Raban's unique and highly descriptive
writing style entertains and amuses as he shares with us a fresh view of both the landscape he passes and the astonishing variety
of characters that he gets to know... including the mighty river herself. The reader can learn a little more about America
as the author does. One of the most interesting thing that Mr. Raban tells us about ourselves is that, much like this great
river, we are individuals, unpredictable and full of possibility.
Just For Fun
Taxiing down the tarmac, the jetliner abruptly stopped, turned around and then headed back to the gate.
After an hour-long wait, the jetliner finally took off. A concerned passenger asked the flight attendant:
“What was the problem?”
“The pilot was bothered by a noise he heard in the engine,” explained the flight attendant,”
and it took us a while to find a new pilot.”

"Stripped of your ordinary surroundings, your friends, your daily routines, your refrigerator full of food,
your closet full of clothes - with all this taken away, you are forced into direct experience. Such direct
experience inevitably makes you aware of who it is that is having the experience. That's not always
comfortable, but it is always invigorating.”
- Michael Crichton
